PULP (A Film About Life, Death and Supermarkets) starts Weds, Nov. 19

Were you at St. Andrew’s Hall when Pulp played Detroit in 1996? Did you drink from Jarvis Cocker’s water bottle? We were, and Paula got hit by one of Nick Banks’ drumsticks when he tossed them into the crowd, so of course we wanted to show the fantastic new documentary about one of our favorite bands of all time. It’s just as distinctive as Pulp itself — “funny, moving, life-affirming & (occasionally) bewildering” (to quote anonymous on IMDB).

Though culminating with the farewell concert the band played to thousands of adoring fans in their hometown of Sheffield, England, Pulp: A Film About Life, Death & Supermarkets is by no means a traditional concert film or rock doc. As much a testament to the band as it is to the city and inhabitants of Sheffield, Pulp weaves exclusive concert footage with man-on-the-street interviews and dreamy staged sequences to paint a picture much larger, funnier, moving, and life-affirming than any music film of recent memory.
