In all its original 1980s glory… Three unemployed parapsychology professors (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis) set up shop as a unique ghost removal service. Business is slow at first, but is soon booming and they hire a fourth Ghostbuster (Ernie Hudson). But they’re still overwhelmed as spirits increasingly infest New York City, moving in particularly on Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver), turning her apartment into “the corner penthouse of Spook Central.” When their ghost containment grid is shut down, the Ghostbusters become the last line of defense against a disaster of biblical proportions. Also starring ’80s mainstays Rick Moranis and Annie Potts.
Each screening will begin with Kimberly Howard’s locally-made non-profit short film, Detroit Ghostbusters (2013, not rated, running time 27 min.). Everyone’s favorite paranormal investigation and elimination franchise comes to the Motor City in the form of a slacker parapsychologist, a quirky cosplay enthusiast, and their inexperienced corporate liaison. This eccentric group is hired to clean up a haunted office. Shot in Waterford, Ferndale, Southfield, and Royal Oak, it’s a fun tribute to the original film.
